Conflicts of interest, such as industry funding or financial ties of investigators, are common in drug trials. Such conflicts may influence how clinical trials are designed, conducted, analysed, and reported.

The webinar will be divided into two parts.

First, we will give an overview of empirical studies on conflicts of interest in clinical trials. Thereafter we will give a more detailed presentation of our recent qualitative study exploring examples of undue influence of conflicts of interest in clinical trials and management strategies to minimise such undue influence.

Lasse Østengaard is a Doctoral Student at Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine Odense (CEBMO) and a Research Librarian at the University Library of Southern Denmark. His main research interests are conflicts of interest and citation principles in clinical research.

Andreas Lundh is senior researcher at Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine Odense and Cochrane Denmark, and also fellow in Infectious Diseases at Hvidovre University Hospital. He has a background in Medicine from University of Copenhagen and a Master in Clinical Epidemiology from Erasmus University Rotterdam. His PhD thesis was on conflicts of interest in biomedical publishing from University of Copenhagen and he currently does research on bias in industry-funded drug trials and conflicts of interest in biomedical research.
