9th Trials Methodology Symposium (2025 – UCC)

Professor Merrick Zwarenstein, Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, University of Western Ontario, Canada

Merrick is a tenured full professor in the Departments of Family Medicine, and of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Western Ontario, in Canada. He received an MBBCh in South Africa, where he worked as a family doctor and health services researcher. He received an MSc from the London School of Hygiene in the UK, and a PhD from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden. He has worked in Canada for more than 20 years, specializing in randomised trials (RCTs) of complex, non-drug interventions. He is an author of over 200 peer reviewed publications and initiated and continues to contribute to updates of the PRECIS tool, a guideline helping trial designers to match the design choices they make for their RCT to their intended purpose for that trial.
