UCC Conference - Data Management in Health Research

The health research data landscape has changed significantly in the past 5 years. GDPR, DPIA, HRR and HRCRC are acronyms that study teams engaged in patient-focused research should immediately recognise. Guidance and support surrounding the capture, processing, storage and access to clinical research data is an absolute necessity for every researcher working in this space.

The scope and depth of data stewardship supports available to researchers varies from institution to institution. To address this issue, the Clinical Research Facility-UCC will host a data management symposium on health research data 25^th October at University College Cork. This will be a full-day in-person event, beginning at 9:30 am and ending at approximately 5 pm. Attached, please find the programme outline.

Morning Session: Sonraí – Irish Data Stewardship Network

The morning session will consist of a data steward networking event as part of a National Open Research Forum funded project setting out to establish a national network of data stewards (https://datastewards.ie/). This event will bring together staff supporting health research activities to map existing strengths, document shared difficulties and discuss future opportunities for collaboration. The session will close with a roundtable Q&A session.

Afternoon session: You’re funded but are you ready to be FAIR?

In the afternoon we will hear from the HRB and SFI funding bodies on their vision for FAIR data enactment in the health research space together with contributions from HSE representatives. This session will conclude with presentations from Public Health Scotland staff where the value of centralised health data records is being realised through reproducible automated reporting workflows.

Who should attend?

While there is no universally agreed definition of a data steward, there are a variety of tasks and skills widely recognised as central to the role; database construction and management; data management planning; metadata creation and application; data curation, preservation and dissemination; infrastructure development; policy development. Many staff may not self-identify as data stewards yet would recognise one or more of these activities as a core component of their duties.  This event is seeking out those staff primarily supporting health research data activities.
